Communications Director



Position Purpose

This position is the strategic lead for the YPO News Center, responsible for content creation, curation and distribution across all YPO channels including email, digital (YPO.org), social and print. Also manage member news and communications team for events and networks.

Primary Responsibilities

o Establish strategic direction and oversee tactical execution of YPO News Center.

o Oversee internal publications, including electronic newsletters, YPO's flagship "Ignite" publication.

o Manage day-to-day operations of content creation and distribution team. Oversee content, YPO.org and social media strategy.

o Manage team responsible for marketing and communications of YPO's flagship events, global events and network events.

o Writing and editing support for myriad marketing and communications. Write communications plans as needed.

o Serve as senior editor for team of in-house and freelance writers.

o Serve as member of CART (Crisis Action Response Team) as needed to draft and strategize on crisis communications.


o Proofreading.

o Cool under fire when all around is chaotic.

o Ability to create and manage budgets and production timelines.

o This position needs to understand how a newsroom works: from information gathering to prioritizing to team management in an environment that is always changing, under deadline and with high expectations to produce quality and relevant content.

o Collaborate with HR department as Marcom partner, responsible for developing communications strategy in support of department (and organizational) goals.

o One of three direct reports to CMO, responsible for assisting with team strategy, management and leadership.


o Global experience through work or school.

o Minimum 10 years' experience in marketing/communications positions.

o In-depth knowledge of Associated Press style.

o Exemplary interpersonal, written and presentation skills.

o Project management for complex and organization-wide projects.

o Knowledge of print, electronic and social media.

o Ability to work well as a team leader and as a team member.

o Excellent organizational skills and commitment to detail.

o Journalism background working as a reporter and editor.

o Crisis and strategic communications planning and execution.


o Bachelor's degree in journalism, English, marketing communications, or relevant field.

o Work experience for a newspaper/publication or news outlet.

o Master's degree in field of interest (preferred).


o Ability to work flexible hours as needed. Minimal travel required. Work virtually in home office.
